geoengineering

Who is actually responsible to save the Earth from the crisis of global warming? The global greenhouse emissions have not been reduced despite the relentless efforts of various policies implemented by the governments all over the world. For instance, the Kyotol Protocol does not really show great efficiency in cutting down the emissions of greenhouse pollutants. Why is that so?
Though i agree with writer that geoengineering may be one of the 'effective' way to curb the emissions, it still shows that not everyone on Earth are really concerned with the looming catastrophe resulted from global warming. Geoengineering may help to relieve the effects of global warming but it seems that there are much more complications. Imagine the huge investments that are required to be made. Think about the time needed to fully implement such techniques. Such investments could have actually relieved the plight of the people living in abject poverty in developing nations. Sometimes, unauthorised experiments bring more disastrous consequences than expected, worsening the current situation.
It seems that only the environmentalists or scientists are responsible to come up with solutions to save the Earth. What about the people and the government?
Well, the governments either make policies to encourage their citizens to engage in environmentally friendly actions or make huge investments in the Research and Development sectors to come up with better solutions in the form of new products such as the orbital mirrors mentioned in the article. Undoubtedly, such new products may simply mean a rise in new business opportunity which can bring huge profits to the economy.
On the other hand, we, human beings, just sit back and wait for things to happen. If there is no one to tell us what to do, we would just ignore things that happen around us, totally oblivious to the surroundings. We are only concerned with our own personal lives; making a living is our top priority. And because of all these reasons no one actually show great concern to care for the Earth.
In conclusion, i believe the most effective way to alleviate the problem of global warming is through the efforts of everyone. Even a little effort like taking public transport rather than driving our own cars may mean a great deal.
It is just the matter of social and environmental responsibility.
